Kenyan police have arrested two individuals suspected of aiding the escape of Kevin Kangethe, wanted for the alleged murder of his girlfriend in the U.S. last year.

Amin Mohammed Ibrahim, head of Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations, announced the arrests and assured progress in the search for Kangethe, who had escaped police custody at Muthaiga police station on February 7.

Kangethe faced extradition for the first-degree murder of Margaret Mbitu, whose body was discovered in a Boston airport parking garage in November 2023. Authorities did not provide details on the arrested individuals or how they facilitated Kangethe’s escape.

Ibrahim expressed confidence in capturing Kangethe soon and holding accountable those aiding his escape.
